Hmm, not going as I planned

And by that, I mean my own dedication. Saturday was the first time back to running in a while. I jogged for a mile, walking about .3 mile as a warm up and cool down. So, yeah. Gotta refocus and spend some time with my brand new shoes. Isn’t that what I bought them for???

Oops, slacker

September 21, 2009 at 10:46 am (Uncategorized)

Yes, I took almost 2 weeks off from running. I can blame my school schedule, work schedule, but it really comes down to being kinda lazy lately. Even with buying new shoes last weekend. So, I laced up those new shoes on Saturday and went out for a bit. Just went around the neighborhood, so I’m not exactly sure how far I went. I would guess it was about a mile. And it wasn’t too bad. I slowed down during the last two blocks, but I felt pretty good otherwise. I have to see if I can squeeze in a quick 20-30 minutes during some of the week bfore I have to go to class. I just don’t think I can wake up at 5 every morning and go, and starting my run at 9:30 or 10 at night doesn’t sound that appealing either. If not, I can probably go Wednesdays, Fridays, and the weekend.

Ok, enough rambling. Move along people….

What can I say

September 9, 2009 at 10:36 pm (Uncategorized)

Today was pretty terrible for running. I tried during my first .5 mile to lengthen my stride. Except, in doing that, I sped up a lot and completely burned out before the 1 mile mark. So, I ended up walking the last bit of the first mile, and then alternated between jogging and walking fr another .5 mile. My goal was to jog 1.5 miles straight.

Yes, part of it was going too quick right off the bat. But, part of it was mental too. I think I might have physically been able to push through the last .6 miles at a slow jog. But the half of my brain that registered I was tired completely took over my entire body and the other half of my brian.

Suck.

I guess I just have to be a religious runner. For now, the only thing religious about it is using His name in vain when I’m tired. I need to really push myself to wake up early and go at least 5 days aweek. Fun fun. Can you hear how excited I am for that?

Halfway there

September 1, 2009 at 12:05 am (Uncategorized)

Well, that may be premature. I jogged for 1.5 miles today for the first time. I might have been able to go longer, but have to remind myself not to push it too far. I felt myself speeding up at a few points today and had to tell myself to slow down. It won’t do me any good to go too fast and burn out. I guess I need to keep at this distance until I can jog it faster and then increase the distance again. And find some better music. Something not too fast, but consistant.

Taking things up a notch

August 30, 2009 at 12:43 am (Uncategorized)

So I’ve gotten to the poin where my body is running faster all by itself, so I think its time to up the distance. Starting this coming week, I’ll increase my distance from about a mile, to about a mile and a half. (The park we go to jog in isn’t exact in its measurements, so its just speculation how far we’re really going.)  This is my new plan though. Once my body gets comfortable enough to go at a quicker pace, its time to slow down again and go further. Once I get used to that distance and start speeding up, rinse and repeat. It took me about two weeks of running 2/3 times a week to get to a comfortable mile, we’ll see how long it takes to be good with 1.5 miles. If I can add a .5 mile lap every 2 weeks, I’ll spend probably the last month before the Turkey Trot ust doin the full 5k, getting used to that distance and working on my time. Not too bad for someone who’s been on the couch for the past 8 months. :)

Picking up the pace

August 26, 2009 at 11:12 pm (Uncategorized)

I was bad today and sped up. I said that I wanted to stay consistant for about a week, and then increase my distance. Although, it did feel good to go at a quicker pace. I went about a mile at the quicker rate, then walked another mile to cool down and stretch. I’m just really hoping that I can stay constant with working out once the new semester begins. I would really get mad at myself if I let it slide.

Trying for consistancy

August 25, 2009 at 10:21 pm (Uncategorized)

So, I officially have 3 months to train. (I’m guessing, I haven’t actually checked the date of Thanksgiving this year.) I’ve jogged a mile twice now. I have to make sure I do at least that from now on. I’ve been told that I should plan to jog the full amount for at least two weeks before the event, so I guess I have 2.5 months to get up to jogging a 5k. I think I’ll do a mile for the rest of the week (not sure how many days I’ll work out this week), and then ramp it up to 1.5 miles starting next week. School starts up next week, so my joggin schedule will change from Tues/Thurs/maybe a weekend day, to Wed/Fri/Sun. We’re usually busy on Sunday afternoons, I really have to make it a point to get out in the morning and jog. (I want so bad to say ‘run’, but I know if I do that, I’ll pick up my pace and burn out quickly! Patience, Andrea, Patience..)

Although today, I did go at a quicker pace for about 1/4 of my run. Yes, its the little things in life that make my day.   :)  Also, I was very happy with myself for gong the full mile without Brad there to push me, just some Coheed and Cambria.

Getting started

August 21, 2009 at 1:42 am (Uncategorized)

Well, not really. I started running last Thursday, so its officailly been a week. So, just starting the blog I guess.

I decided I wanted to run to Turkey Trot this year, the 5k portion. Easy enough to walk, but I wanted to run/jog it. I’ve said for a while that I wanted to be a runner. Just to get up and be like, I feel like going for a run today. And just go. So, this is the start of that as well.

I actually did a full mile today, which was exciting for me. I don’t think I’ve run a full mile for at least a year, and who knows how long before that. With three months till the Trot, I should be able to get myself up to speed. The hardest part so far has been the food portion. Willpower is not one of my virtues. Although, that in itself is another motivator, if I want to eat it, I have to run it off.
